How a little known World War 2 Scientific Study unlocked they key to my freedom from 10 years of binge eating - And how it can help you too.

Dear reader,

I want to share something with you that transformed my life and enabled me to overcome 10 years of binge eating.

To be honest, I am feeling a little angry right now.
I am upset that this information isn’t more commonly known.
I am upset that many of you are needlessly suffering for years.
There is a way to break free and I want to share it with you.

Before I get into this let me ask you,
Do you feel trapped in a continual cycle of overeating, food cravings, and food obsession?
Do you struggle to control your weight with diet after diet?
Does one donut frequently turn into a full-blown binge?
If you answered yes to the above questions then you know how much control food can hold over your life.

Somehow you can just eat, eat and eat and never seem to reach the point where you feel satisfied. Afterward, you worry about weight gain and berate yourself for lacking control. In the back of your mind, you worry that you are doomed to suffer the pain and misery of life as a binge eater.

I’ll be honest with you, before there was a time I was convinced that it was impossible for a person to overcome binge urges.
“Once a binge eater, always a binge eater,” I thought.

But I was so wrong!

There is a way to recover.

You may believe that it’s impossible to recover from binge eating and bulimia.

You may believe that you are doomed for the rest of your life.

I’m telling you right now that this is just NOT true.

You can be 100% totally cured.

It CAN happen to YOU.

There is such a thing as TOTAL FREEDOM FOR LIFE.

And it can be life-changing in all the best ways.

Here is some of the feedback that I regularly get.

“I have not put on any weight, I have rediscovered spontaneity and I feel like I have gained so much freedom. I still can’t believe how much my life has changed for the better. My life at the moment is more ‘normal’ than it has been at any point in my memory.”

“I’ve never felt so calm and in control around food. I eat when I feel like it and until I am full. Some days it’s more and some it’s less. I really never believed that recovery is possible and I am still surprising myself every day with how much happier and healthy I feel.”

“My life and happiness are no longer ruled by a number on a scale. In fact, I threw my scales out long ago!”

“I paint, play with my dog, go hiking, play basketball. These are all things I felt too tired to do before and now I feel energetic and look forward to doing them.”

“It has only been three months, but the best three months of my life, as i start to see that there is light at the end of the tunnel. No amount of psychiatry, doctor, group, inpatient or outpatient ‘help’ has ever given me this belief and strength and b/p free days.”

And I am going to share the simple strategy of how they did it.

It was 2003 and I was afraid for my life.
I worried that I was going to die soon.
It was inevitable.
There’s only so much abuse a body can take.
I’d been bingeing and purging food for over 10 years at that point, usually 10 times a day and it felt like all the years of self-inflicted damage were finally catching up with me.

I’d lost my menstrual cycle, I’d became socially withdrawn and depressed. I was suffering from weight fluctuations, panic attacks, heart palpitations, bad teeth, severe food and body preoccupation.

My life was an endless cycle of bingeing, purging, then starving, bingeing, purging, then starving. Food was a battle ground and hunger was my enemy. Normal life felt like a distant forgotten memory.

It wasn’t like I didn’t try to stop. Oh my, I tried so hard to stop. With every atom of my being, with every ounce of my willpower, I tried to resist the urge to binge on food but it never worked. I couldn’t stop. I wasn’t sure if I was mad, broken, lacked willpower or all of the above. What I did know was that I was terrified, alone, ill and that my life was in danger.

Eventually I hit rock bottom.

I found myself passed out on the toilet floor. My heart was palpitating, I felt shaky, weak, broken and I instinctively knew that my body wouldn’t allow me to carry on this way much longer. I had abused it enough. There was a limit and I had reached mine. This had to stop. I didn’t want to die.

I plucked up the courage to tell my partner about my condition and although he was confused, he did agree to help.

And so began the road to recovery.
The thing is, most of what we tried for recovery just didn’t work. It was a frustrating and difficult time. Worse than that, everywhere we turned people treated me as though she was mentally ill and told me recovery would be a “life-long battle.”

But we refused to give up…

So we decided to take matters into our own hands.
Utilizing the research skills we’d developed at university, together we spent 15 months researching, testing, and questioning everything we could find on bingeing and eating disorders.

It was when we were then backpacking through S.E. Asia,  and we were researching from a little Internet Cafe in Loas, that we made our biggest discovery!

This literally changed EVERYTHING we thought we knew about overcoming binge eating.

This is what we discovered.

In 1944 a famous physiologist Ancel Keys conducted a large study EVER on the effects of a restrictive diet.

Its participants were put on a diet of 1,600 calories per day for 6 months.

Over time, they began to suffer from various side effects, such as anxiety, food obsession, depression and binge eating.

Once the experiment ended, some of the participants found themselves eating more than five thousand calories a day and continuing to eat even when they were absolutely stuffed.

(sounds familiar, doesn’t it?).

The results showed that “many of the symptoms that might have been thought to be specific to anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are actually the results of starvation (pirke & ploog, 1987).”

Simply put, research has shown that a restrictive diet can lead to every single symptom of bulimia or binge eating.

Furthermore, numerous research studies have proven that in most cases, dieting leads to weight gain in the long run:

Study 1: 95% Failure rate

One study has shown that within four years of losing weight on a diet, 95% of dieters gain back all the weight they have lost. At the end of this period, two out of five dieters end up heavier than they were before they lost weight.

Study 2: Identical Twin Study

A study of 1,600 identical twins has concluded that the twin who dieted ended up weighing more than the one who did not at the end of the study.

Four years later, the dieting twins still weighed more than their diet-free siblings.

It is a scientific fact: dieting causes people to overeat.

Studies show they don’t work, they’re dangerous and they lead to eating disorders. It has been proven that people who diet are 18 times more likely to develop an eating disorder than those who do not. That’s right, 18 times more likely!
Golden, N. H., Schneider, M., & Wood, C. (2016). Preventing Obesity and Eating Disorders in Adolescents. Pediatrics, 138(3). doi:10.1542/peds.2016-1649
And the diet doesn’t even have to be particularly strict in order to result in disordered eating.
In fact,
two-thirds of new cases of eating disorders are reported by those who diet moderately
Patton, G. C., et al. 1999
As surprising as it may seem, a simple diet can truly destroy one’s life.
This isn’t conjecture, this is a scientifically proven fact.

All dieting is yo-yo dieting in practice.

Whilst successful dieters seem to be non-existent, people who repeatedly gain and lose weight are abundant.

Over time, these weight fluctuations gradually lead to a heavier weight overall.

Considering all of the scientific research into the real effects of dieting, it only makes sense that the stricter the diet and food restriction is, the stronger the resulting binge urges grow.

It is as though every diet has an equal and opposite binge to counter it.

This is exactly why an innocent diet can turn into years of disordered eating.

Not only do diets NOT work. They can cause eating disorders.

It’s a bit shocking isn’t it?

The fact is:
Diets are extremely dangerous.
Nearly all diets fail
and diets cause eating disorders.

If you are malnourished, you will binge, this will happen to anyone. This has nothing to do with who you are as a person. You are not weak, broken or faulty because you cannot stop bingeing on food.

Why does this happem?

Good question.

You might think it is strange that your body creates what seems like a huge “hunger monster” inside you that just wants to gorge on a ton of food.
Well, this is actually a basic and natural human survival mechanism. There is nothing wrong or weird about this type of hunger. In fact, it is healthy for your body’s survival mechanism to kick in when it detects that something is wrong. This is happening because your body thinks that you are in the middle of a famine (remember bingeing and purging has put your body into starvation mode) and it is doing everything it can to ensure you are eating enough food.
(Think of it this way, if we didn’t suffer from food obsession and binge cravings when we were malnourished, then it is very unlikely we would have survived as a species past the Stone Age.)

To overcome this we need to RESET YOUR HUNGER.

Time and time again I have seen how
every single side effect of bulimia can
be reversed simply by
overcoming food restriction.

Maybe it was time that Binge eating and bulimia  was treated as mostly a physical/biological condition and not a mental one.

You may be surprised that studies show…

…no scientific evidence supports the idea that resolving underlying psychological problems leads to recovery (Walsh & Cameron, 2005).

This might help to explain why traditional treatments that focus only on the mental aspects of eating disorders aren’t super effective. If bulimia is mostly a physical condition, you cannot possibly “think yourself” better. Try “thinking” a broken leg better. It won’t get you very far.

Key 8: To escape from the “binge/purge cycle” you need to undo the damage that restriction and malnutrition has caused.

You need to RESET your hunger.

bulimiacycleTo recover, we need to reset your hunger. To do this you need to provide your body with regular, balanced, adequate food.
By doing this you can expect a DRAMATIC reduction in your binge urges.
✓ Undo the damage of malnutrition.
✓ Stop restricting food.
✓ Feed your body the nutrition it needs.
✓ Rebalance your blood sugar levels.
✓ Kickstart your digestive system.
✓ Increase your metabolism.
✓ Normalize your hunger.
✓ Normalize your satiety.
✓ Dramatically reduce your urge to binge on food.
✓ Relearn normal eating habits.

So what does this mean for you?

Think back to when your bulimia began. Were you restricting your food intake? If the answer is yes, then perhaps it’s time to accept the fact that food restriction is responsible for trapping you into the “binge/purge cycle” of bulimia. To escape from the “binge/purge cycle” and to recover from bulimia you need to undo the damage that restriction and malnutrition has caused.
Chances are there was nothing “wrong” with you before you restricted your food intake. If you had never restricted your food intake, you would never have felt compelled to binge on food in the first place and you wouldn’t have developed bulimia.
Please take a moment to consider the fact that there is nothing wrong with you, that you are absolutely perfect and that you are just experiencing the natural and very normal side effects of a restrictive diet.
  • How does this make you feel?
  • How does this change your view of yourself?
  • Can you see how empowering this approach is?
I love this quote from one of our members Shanna…

“There is nothing WRONG with you! You are not broken, weak, disgusting, or crazy.  This is a problem – almost like a broken foot.  It needs to heal, but it doesn’t say anything about you as a human being. It feels like it does, but that is a LIE! It’s not your fault (this was huge for me).”

So, there you have it. The Binge Cd in a nutshell!!
Ok, I know I have given you a lot of information here. Don’t worry if it all sounds a little unfamiliar at this point. I know some of these concepts can be hard to grasp at first. I just wanted to give you a simple brief outline of what to expect.

Wrong Assumption 2:

“You are not broken or faulty!”

We don’t believe you are weak, broken or faulty in some way.

You may be surprised that studies show no scientific evidence supports the idea that resolving underlying psychological problems leads to recovery (Walsh & Cameron, 2005).

This might help to explain why traditional treatments that focus only on the mental aspects of binge eating and bulimia are not very effective.

It’s a little-known FACT but for the vast majority of people binge eating and bulimia has nothing to do with their past, upbringing, or genetics. They simply went on a restrictive diet which spiralled into the dark world of an eating disorder.

Wrong Assumption 3:

"You are not lacking willpower!"

In reality, willpower has very little to do with it.

If you try to fight off your binge urges using willpower alone then yes, it may work for a short time, but eventually those urges are going to overpower you.

You could have all of the willpower in the world and it still wouldn’t be enough to fight those urges.

Wrong Assumption 4:

"You CAN break free "

Because of the diversity of success stories that we’ve had the pleasure of witnessing over the past decade, we can tell you without a doubt that NO ONE is beyond help. There is no such thing as being too weak or too broken to break free from binge eating.

You CAN recover. You can get over this. You CAN get your life back.

It doesn’t matter if you binge on food once a week or multiple times a day. It doesn’t matter if you’re overweight, underweight or normal weight. If you tend to lose control around food, you’re in the right place. This program has been designed for YOU.

The unusual story of how we figured this out...

By following this approach I noticed a radical reduction in the frequency and intensity of my binges. After 3 months I had completely stopped bingeing and purging and within 10 months I considered myself fully recovered.

It was remarkable. I have never looked back and I have been free from bulimia and all food issues ever since. We decided to share this approach with the world.

Since 2007 over 12,000 members have passed through our coaching and recovery programs. The feedback has been remarkable and our program is now recommended by experts, doctors, eating disorder professionals, and charities worldwide.

About The Binge Code Program

The Binge Code Program is our tried and tested step-by-step system to:

Developed with over 10 years of experience in recovery coaching, as well as two best-selling books on the subject disordered eating

Why the binge code Program is different

This program is different than most courses about ending binge eating

Because, unlike other courses, we don’t ask you to analyze your painful past experiences or ask you to examine any personality ‘flaws’ and we don’t treat you as though you are broken or faulty.

Instead, we show you HOW to build new habits to break free from binge cravings —and stay that way for good.

We’ll do this by breaking big changes down into small habitsSmall habits are easier to build. Once you’ve finished building one small habit, you can then focus on another. The more you practise your habit, the easier it becomes. Eventually, it turns into second nature – easy and comfortable.

This way you can transform your life one sustainable step at a time!

This approach will work even if you think you:

  • lack willpower
  • lack motivation
  • lack commitment
  • are absolutely stuck.

Here are just a few of the 12,000 plus members who who’ve experienced incredible transformations over the past 12 years.

“My experience with the Binge Code Coaching program was the bridge to recovery that I wasn’t able to reach on my own.

This program truly built the road to recovery that I had been trying to reach for so long. I have struggled with my eating disorder since I was 16. I am now 32 and finally able to look back on my journey.

– Natalie

“I suffered with eating issues for over 15 years. I’d given up all hope for recovery/normal life.”

I thought I’d suffer with my eating disorder for the rest of my life. I was too afraid to go to a treatment center, but at the time that’s the only way I thought recovery might be possible. It wasn’t until I came across “The Bulimia Help Method” audio book in October 2016, that I realized “maybe I can do this”? Once I completed the audio book, I knew I could do it! I just needed a little more help and guidance.  So I signed up for coaching and have never looked back. I am now 3.5 years into my recovery journey!

– Monique

I have a new found love for life

I never ever thought I’d reach the day where my cupboards could be filled with chocolate, cereal, peanut butter (and all other sorts of former trigger foods) without feeling the desire to inhale them all.
